I took a different street home and found an apartment building I must have walked past a hundred times. This time I noticed the little balconies, each with its own collection of plants and mismatched chairs.

Architecture is often described through big ideas. Most days, the details are what stay with me: a doorway worn smooth, a kitchen light at dusk, a window somebody has made their own.

I came home with a few sketches and a reminder to look up more often. What is one small detail you love about the place where you live?
